Message from Fr. Chris
Dear faithful of St. Demetrios,
So many things have changed in the world since I last wrote to you.Where do I begin to start to write a message of inspiration and reflection for this sacred time of the year. For some it will be just a repeat out of habit, for others it will be nuisance and for still others a new portal of opportunity to experience a Divine presence in our lives.Regardless of how you look upon it Great Lent was put here for us, for you and me.
Instead of giving up things for Lent, we might focus on taking up new life in the Spirit. Instead of making resolutions, we might focus on how God resolves to redeem us before we realize we need help from beyond our own resources. Instead of selfimprovement, we should seek the transforming ways of Christ.
An important starting point for this kind of focus is to be informed by the story of the transfiguration (Luke 9:28-36), the key to which is “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” As we enter Great and Holy Lent, we must be still. We must listen to Jesus. Lent isn’t so much a matter of what we give up for Jesus but a matter of discerning how to give ourselves over to Jesus.
