Sunday School PDF Print E-mail

Dear Parents and Students,

One purpose of religious education is to learn a certain amount of content.  It is important to learn about the life of Jesus and the saints, to memorize prayers and hymns and to understand the history of the church.  But the greater purpose for all this is to help our children choose to follow Jesus everyday of their lives and to lay a foundation so they will continue to make that choice as adults.

With that in mind I am very happy with our new unified approach to Sunday school, Greek Language and Culture and Greek Dance.  With all these programs on Sunday the teachers can work more closely together so that the content of one supports the content of the others.  It is important for children to know why we as Greek Orthodox Christians do things as we do and why we have certain customs, traditions and beliefs.  How much richer is the children’s understanding if they begin to see that the tones of our hymns are related to the rhythms of their dances.  How much more comfortable they will be if they both know the life of their patron saint and are able to say the traditional “Hronia Polla” and converse with their friends in Greek.

I hope you will bring your children to attend the Divine Liturgy and all the programs each Sunday, so they can learn and understand as much as possible. Our Sunday schedule will be

10:00     Adult class in the church

                10:30     Divine Liturgy

                11:15     Sunday school (after communion)

                12:30     lunch

                1:10        Greek Language and Culture

                2:00        Greek Dance

It is a blessing for me and the teachers to be able to work with your precious children each week.

Sincerely,

Paula Kirifides
