Cancer unit
Fort Lauderdale Cancer Unit
Dear Friends:
The long, hot days of summer are upon us. Did you know that the most common form of cancer in the United States is skin cancer? All of the outdoor activities we are blessed with in the Florida sun can put us all at risk for this leading cancer. Most skin cancers are avoidable. We can all protect ourselves from the damaging affects of the sun by following a few easy steps.
- Avoid the sun between 10 am and 4 pm
- Wear sunscreen year round with SPF 15 or higher
- Grab a hat and sunglasses
We’ve had a productive year so far in our mission to raise money to help find a cure for cancer. During the past year, our members voted to change the name of our organization to the Fort Lauderdale Cancer Unit from the St. Demetrios Cancer Unit of the Papanicolaou Core for Cancer Research. Our hope is to reach out to new members in the community and is open to all interested individuals, including those outside of our St. Demetrios family. If you are interested in helping join our fight against cancer, consider attending our meetings which our held the 4th Thursday of every month. Our next meeting will be held on September 24th in the church hall. Our upcoming fall fundraiser is the 2 day “White Elephant Sale” which will be held on Friday, November 6th and Saturday, November7th. We invite you and your family to support our efforts. Our mission is TO RAISE FUNDS TO SUPPORT CANCER RESEARCH. Please help us achieve our goal.
Sincerely,
Gloria Linda Stokes
President
